Transference: Locations in Memory & Time gathers three Flemish artists: Elke Boon, Dirk Braeckman and David Claerbout. The title of the exhibition refers simultaneously to the particularity of the media of photography and video, and the contents of the works presented. The three artists seek to seize frozen moments. Memories and thoughts melt at Dirk Braeckman in an indefinable abstraction whereas Elke Boon shows clearly his generation’s spirit. David Claerbout alters archive images and old postcards. He confers them a new significance, treating them by electronic means. The exhibition is conceived like an account of a trip contrasted through the abstraction, the realism and the handling of the image. It touches as well the various “ways of looking” as it does the concepts of memory, thought and perception.
